The morning economic-class Merak Jaya departed from Jakarta Kota on January 26, 2008, at 07.30 a.m. Its destination was Merak. Aboard it was a team of Jakarta-Merak tour. The unique thing of the journey was the combination of crowded passenger cars, beatiful scenery, and traditional snacks.

The train arrived at Merak Station at noon. The station master, Mr. Sumanta, personally greeted the team. He informed the team of the latest condition of the station. He said there were 12 lines, yet recently only two lines were functioned. In the 1980s, the station’s income was good. “It could match Gambir’s income,” he said. The old building of the station had been transformed into a dock.

The team presented a souvenir to the station master. Then the team returned to Jakarta at 2.00 p.m. Mr. Sumanta accompanied the team from Merak Station to Kerenceng Station.
